When Greenberg and others suggested that the depiction of an object in space was no longer relevant, nor even viable, Stuart embarked on a startlingly provocative and experimental period of artistic production. Between the years of 1967 and 1972, Stuart made a number of forays into a wide range of unexpected media, repeatedly challenging the supposed 'death' of his preferred way of working.
