The Melba Festival and Nightingale

Past Exhibitions
23 March - 25 March 2007

Inspired by the magic that made Dame Nellie Melba an international star in the early 1900s, the Melba Festival celebrates music, arts, wine, food, heritage, racing and the many other community segments which have made the Yarra Valley internationally famous.

The 2007 festival celebrates the centenary of Dame Nellie Melba’s first concerts in Melbourne and showcases some of Australia’s finest musical talent through an exciting program of concerts. This included performances by internationally acclaimed artists such as Duo Sol, Flinders Quartet, Alison Jones and Helen Noonan.

In commemoration of Dame Nellie Melba’s first Melbourne performance, the Nightingale exhibition presents memorabilia of Australia’s greatest performer selected by Judith Walsh. Throughout the three day festival, the Museum hosts musical performances by Alison Jones, Helen Noonan, The Benaud Trio, Amir Farid, Raymond Yong & Jessica Ipkendanz, Xenia Devitkina-Loh and Stefan Cassomenos.
