Cao Fei ‘La Town’ – Film Screening at ACMI

To coincide with TarrraWarra International 2017: all that is solid…, ACMI presents La Town (2014, 41 mins 58 seconds), by leading contemporary Chinese artist, Cao Fei. Citing Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities and Alain Resnais’ Hiroshima Mon Amour as influences, Cao sets her camera roving through detailed post-apocalyptic tableaux, hand constructed by the artist, evoking a metropolis full of discord and decay, tenderness and violence.

Following the screening, Victoria Lynn, curator of all that is solid…, will discuss the work in the context of Cao Fei’s practice.
