Children’s Workshop - Masks within Masks

Artist Sarah Metzner will begin the workshop with a group discussion of selected works in the TarraWarra Biennial 2014: Whisper in My Mask exhibition, focusing on how the artists interpret the ideas of masking in many different forms, including how masks can both reveal and conceal identities.

The children will explore a variety of fun, technical, imaginative individual and group drawing activities that explore the mysteries reflected within the genre of portraiture.

Session 2: Weaving Creation
Woven animal workshop
2:00pm – 4:00pm
Create your own Australian woven sculptural animal totem inspired by Biennial artists, the Tjanpi Desert Weavers. The children will learn to create 3D sculptural forms that combine textiles and organic materials to create animal totems full of personality and character.

*Includes entry for the participating child and one accompanying adult to the current exhibitions. All materials are supplied and the workshop concludes with a discussion circle where children show their artworks.
