SCHOOL HOLIDAY EVENT

Inside the Mirage traces the life and work of artist Ian Fairweather, including the raft he built to sail from Darwin to Rote Island, Indonesia.

Inspired by the astonishing 16-day voyage the artist travelled in his self-made raft from Darwin to Rote Island, Indonesia, this hands-on workshop invites children aged 6–14 to design and construct their own unique miniature raft sculpture.

Children will explore raft-building, construction and design techniques using a variety of art, craft and recycled materials. Children will design their raft to reflect their individual goals and construction designs as Fairweather did for his voyage.

This workshop focuses on:

— Exploring construction techniques with art, craft and recycled materials

— Exploring design and creative expression in the customisation of a raft sculpture

— Exploring the Australian artist Ian Fairweather and TarraWarra’s Inside the Mirage exhibition.

Children will get to take home their own designed raft sculpture.

All materials are supplied.

We ask that participants arrive 15 minutes before the workshop to complete a Health and Safety form upon arrival. Children aged 6 may require an accompanying adult.
