8.00 to 8.20pm: A Scratch Ensemble is a group convened to interpret and perform compositions by Cornelius Cardew and others. They will present ‘Scratch Music’, a work comprised of actions written individually by the performers and performed simultaneously without conferring. Members include Caroline Anderson, Dan Bell, Tim Coster, Jared Davis, Giles Fielke, Helen Grogan, Nathan Gray (Convenor), Francis Plagne, Charlie Sofo and Isadora Vaughan.

8.40-9.00pm: The Charles Ives Singers perform ‘old songs deranged’ and stream of consciousness orations with improvised instrumentals.

9.20-9.40pm: The Donkey’s Tail is experimental improv avant folk combining crashing free noise and silence with songs and spoken word. The group was formed in early 2007 by abstract artist John Nixon and this performance will feature him and fellow biennial exhibition artist Victor Meertens with other members of the free forming group.

10.00-10.20pm: Snawklor was formed over 15 years ago by visual artists Nathan Gray and Dylan Martorell to perform sound sculpture and live manipulation of recordings. Their third world musique concrete and searing psych sensibilities have been augmented in recent years with the addition of drummer Duncan Blachford. Their improvised and wide ranging performances move between delicate open air performance and sound system searing pub shows.

10.40-11.00pm: Marco Fusinato is a multi-disciplinary artist who extends the language of the guitar to distressed oblivion, unleashing tsunamis of over-amped, post-conkret realism.

The TarraWarra Museum of Art is currently presenting the TarraWarra Biennial 2012: Sonic Spheres exhibition until 9 December 2012. Dedicated to showcasing contemporary and innovative Australian art, the biennial, curated by TWMA Director Victoria Lynn features an assemblage of contemporary Australian artworks engaged with sound, music and voice.

TWMA Director Victoria Lynn says “This live sound event at the Northcote Social Club is a unique opportunity to experience the experimental music of some of Australia’s leading visual artists in the context of a renowned music venue. Utilising improvised instruments, sounds and ‘noise’, these performances provide a new and dynamic addition to the exhibition on display at the TarraWarra Museum of Art.”

A number of these artists also perform live with their art works on the first Sunday of each month at TarraWarra Museum of Art.
