New Beaut Country
The inaugural exhibition at the new Museum, New Beaut Country, presents an overview of the TarraWarra Museum of Art collection, focusing on the development of modern art in Australia and highlighting artists whose work has come to prominence from the 1950s onwards. The exhibition includes a selection of works from the late 1960s onwards, which exemplify the influence on Australian art practice of international movements (from abstract expressionism, hard edge and pop art, through photorealism, conceptual art, neo-classicism and postmodernism). While containing examples of internationally informed art, the TarraWarra Museum of Art collection demonstrates a coherent and uniquely Australian character, strongly founded in this nation’s interior and exterior world. The collection also retains an intimate character reminiscent of, and derived from, its origins as a private collection, which is clearly evident in this opening exhibition. The exhibition includes work by Joy Hester, Albert Tucker, Fred Williams, John Perceval, Howard Arkley, Sally Smart, Robert Hunter, Jenny Watson, Brent Harris and many others.
