    Wurundjeri Country

TarraWarra Museum of Art acknowledges the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as the original custodians of the lands and waters on which the Museum stands.

‘Tarrawarra’ is a Woiwurrung word that translates approximately as ‘slow moving water’ and is the name given to the area in which the Museum is located within the Yarra Valley. Legend has it that the term ‘Tarrawarra’ refers to a bend in the nearby Birrarung (Yarra River), which courses from the Yarra Ranges through to Melbourne, flowing south of the Museum’s expansive grounds.

    The Yarra Valley

    Yarra Valley

TarraWarra Museum of Art is located in the picturesque Yarra Valley in Victoria, Australia.

The Yarra Valley is regarded as one of the world’s premier wine-growing regions, with breathtaking scenery, award-winning wineries, breweries, distilleries and restaurants, luxury accommodation and a myriad of galleries and cultural venues. Architecture

Designed by acclaimed Australian architect Allan Powell and built by Probuild Constructions, TarraWarra Museum of Art sits at the apex of a hill, arcing gently from the earth in concert with the contours and hues of the surrounding landscape.

In 2004, Allan Powell was awarded the 2004 Victorian Premier’s Design Award for his design, with its sweeping, rammed-earth façade and voluminous spaces. The floor-to-ceiling picture windows in the northern galleries elegantly frame the Yarra Valley landscape beyond, inviting visitors to ‘see’ the landscape in a different way.
